The Diocese of Meath is blessed in having a Diocesan Choir who sing at many major Diocesan events. The membership is comprised of people from throughout the Diocese most of whom who sing in their Parish Choir. This means that parish choirs are significantly supported by the Diocesan Choir in terms of repertoire.
At present, there are 87 registered members coming from 38 different parishes and churches throughout the diocese. The Director of the choir is Jim Walsh with Jane Lynch as the Accompanist.
A committee supports the choir and oversees registration, communication, music library, and the logistical details of the choir’s liturgical engagements. Regarding repertoire, the choir performs a wide range of Hymns, Psalms, Gospel acclamations, Mass settings, and seasonal/festive pieces.
Each year, Meath Diocesan Choir participates in a variety of significant liturgical events and parish celebrations throughout the diocese. Among these are the Diocesan Pilgrimages to Knock Shrine; the Diocesan celebration of St. Oliver Plunkett in Loughcrew; the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes (in rotation with other choirs from the diocese): a Carol Service in one of the parishes; diocesan celebrations held in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar.
Over the years, the choir has sung at numerous Eucharistic celebrations, including:
Rome (St. Peter’s Basilica; Basilica of St. Mary Major, Lateran Basilica) and in various shrines and places of pilgrimage in Italy and Poland as well as participating at the World Meeting of Families 2018.
Participation in the Diocesan Choir offers members the opportunity to deepen their faith through music, contribute to the prayer and worship of the church, develop their musical skills and build friendships with others who share their love of sacred music.
The Diocesan Choir is now recruiting new members and is hosting two information nights in that regard.
- Tuesday, 6th October in St. Paul’s Church in Mullingar

- Monday 12th October in St. Anne’s chapel attached to Navan Parish Church
